Staycation

Jack had fun at the Staycation stations at the library last week. The first picture shows him doing a camping themed book scavenger hunt which he thought  was fun. The second picture  shows the Hawaiian day and learning about Island culture.  We were able to get him together with his cousin and one of his good friends to go play at Chaney's Dairy Barn. They had a blast.
Then Jack had archery and got it dead center  of the yellow.  He was so excited  that he didn't want to remove the arrow. We went to the Arbor  day celebration and picked up some free trees to plant. They had a lot of helpful information  about the environment and why trees are great. We planted a dogwood tree. Jack was able to bounce in a bouncy  house too. My Mom had given us some hyacinth beans that  she had in her freezer for the Spring and so we did a little seed germination experiment with them. When all 5 beans were about three inches tall we planted them. Jack attended a fun tie dye class at the library.  He was so proud of hus new July  4th shirt that  he made.

Happy Earth Day!

We celebrated by having school outside today which was so fun. We had story time on the hammock too. Then we did an awesome and fun water cycle experiment. We made it rain and you can see the droplets of water on the land. The warm water had salt in it and represents  the ocean , the empty glass  bowl floating on the water represents the land , the plastic wrap on top of the bowl represents the cloud and the ice is the cool atmosphere .

Spring Break-itis

When you homeschool and your son has Spring Break-itis because he know's that he is going to spend a whole week at his Nana's  you improvise your lesson plan. After about 2 hours of written work he was over it so we played Boggle and Hangman for spelling practice then we had a field trip at Aviation Heritage park. At the park a pilot talked to the group about the different types of clouds , the water cycle , the parts of an airplane and they made a craft and answered review questions.  They made a water cycle bracelet: yellow bead for the sun heating up the oceans , clear for evaporation, white for the cloud/condensation , dark blue for precipitation and light blue for collection  or accumulation.  I thought it was cute and I used my new knot tying skills from jewelry  class to make it adjustable. Then we ate our picnic lunch and had recess with the group at the park. Then Jack did his reading and Spanish in the car on the way  home. He said it was a great last day before Spring  Break. We even had a birthday party to go to that night for the cousins.

Fun week and Easter

We had a nice realxing weekend and Easter.  I caught up  on reading in the hammock (which I love ) and my adult coloring  (I love  owls). Jack likes his Easter goodies , we had a family meal at the in-laws (it was also my mother-in-laws birthday ) and peeps play dough fun. Jack lives Archery  and is getting better at it.  Plus I was able to go to a free mixed media art class. I love  the library and all it has to offer.  Jack really liked my art too because it included the 3 little pigs ,  a map , an image that is similiar to me , earth tone paint colors , a KY horse and his name.
