Memorial Day Weekend

Being sick is not any fun. Thank goodness that I started feeling better Friday evening and was back to my old self Saturday. I hate calling out sick from work,I feel like I let everyone down, but I'm  sure the patients would not have wanted me nauseous and running a fever trying to clean their teeth. Also because of my stomach bug and the weather  (scattered thunder storms) we had to cancel our tent camping weekend. I still wanted to get out and enjoy nature and there was a break in the weather Saturday. We have never been to Shanty Hollow but have wanted to go,so I packed us a picnic lunch and we went for a hike. The trail was muddy from all the rain, but we made it and it was beautiful. Made me realize how out of shape I am. I had to go back to the car and get my inhaler just in case. The asthma comes back when I'm not doing cardio and conditioning my lungs. I have been watching what I've been eating, walking some and doing yoga but I really need to get back into a little cardio per day. We had a blast and Jack actually played with some other kids at the base of the waterfall.
On another note,I just wanted to say how awesome the Fitbit company is. My tracker was working just fine but the band was falling apart, so they sent me a new one for free. It's not the same color, but it's fine. That's the only color they had.
Since I've been a lot better, I have been cooking more. Homemade gluten free chicken noodle soup, tacos and ham steaks with cheesy potatos, green beans and strawberries.  Tonight dinner will be bratwurst, rice and veggies. Tomorrow I am making barbecue chicken. For some reason every time I'm  sick,I go on a major cooking spree afterwards.

I worked a Hot Rod's game with my sister in law. These kids are hard workers.

Spring time

I love this time a year. We are having several bonfires and I am getting our camp gear ready.  I want to go camping so bad,but we won't be able to go this weekend. We have had a lot of rain and thunderstorms lately and I'm  battling a stomach bug so this Memorial Day weekend will be spent on the couch with Netflix, chicken noodle soup and icecream.

These photos are of our fun weekend we had last weekend.  Our funday Friday homeschool day, after the written work, we did art. Jack hates art but I made it something he would like, so we made a target out of foam board for his wooden crossbow that he purchased from the Renaissance festival. Then we had Target practice for P.E.

Then we had a fun art, engineering and science project with biodegradable packing peanuts that I brought home from work. We have been discussing landforms and ways to help the Earth as well as water pollution and different types of usable energy in Earth Science.  We compared biodegradable packing peanuts vs non biodegradable peanuts. When sprayed with water,it didn't effect the Styrofoam peanuts at all but it melted the biodegradable peanuts which are made from corn starch.

Then we engineered a bridge with the peanuts and toothpicks. Then we played with water and the peanuts which turned the peanuts into moldable floam. We made a model of a man. Jack wanted to make a skeleton but it molded into a man and then Jack proceeded to name the bones. I'm so happy he loves science as much as I do. We made a pretty cool tea bag rocket that we got from a library  book.

The rest of the weekend involved a fun bonfire and we cooked hot dogs over the fire. Jack had his last day of Archery class and we watched the new Angry Birds movie  too.

We are finishing reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and we discussed the book and watched the movie. Jack also looked up every new word he came across when we were reading. He is getting faster at using the dictionary. We will be wrapping up the 3rd grade soon.I can't  believe that I will have a 4th grader. We will spend all of next week reviewing and testing. Then the summer school/learn to write cursive lessons will happen.

Creative week

I finally did a paint N sip class ,it was so much fun. Maybe,  a bit too involved of a painting for my first one but I definitely want to do it again.
Our library is so cool, they have a young inventors club once a month . This  month  they work with a snap circuits synthesizer and tiny robots. Jack has a lot of fun with the library  classes.

Renaissance Fest

This was Jack's  first time at the Ren fest. We will definitely be going back next year.  I bought a beautiful tree of life necklace. Jack bought a sword and shield and a wooden/rubber tipped arrow cross bow. We ate lots of food. Jack had a cheeseburger, fries and a root beer float.  I tried a giant turkey leg, cinamon almonds, Strombow gluten free beer, and chocolate covered strawberries . Jack loved every minute of it. He was able to do fun games, archery, throw axes, knives and ninja stars. We watched knife throwing demonstrations by professionals,Celtics singing, bagpipe player and a cool jousting tournament. They even had a cute craft sections set up.  Jack passed out from exhaustion on the  ride home.
