Busy week as usual

I love this time of year  and being able to spend time with my family  and teach  Jack but I'm  exhausted and ready get back to work and my normal routine. Jack is learning  the skeletal system and we are reading  Charlotte's  Web so we have had lots of skeleton and spider crafts. We had to throw in another science experiment  too. Even the reading comprehension , spelling words and math have been themed. I also found some cute Halloween mad libs , so Jack can work on his adverbs and adjectives.  He is definitely  my child because it is taking him forever to learn the difference  between the two , and I struggled with that. He is also showing dislexia tendencies and I do as well. I've  never been diagnosed with full blown dislexia but sometimes I switch words and sentences and flip  numbers. Thank goodness I work for patient Dr's  because I can't  even tell you how many times I have found a cavity , written it down for them to look at it properly but then when I said it out loud it would be the opposite  surface.
We did a fun science  experiment with vinegar and baking soda of course.  Take a permanent  marker and draw faces  on zip lock bags then put  vinegar  and corn starch with food coloring in the bags. Then you make a baking soda and toilet paper bath bomb then zip up the bag and shake it up then watch. We made a handprint spider craft which would have been cuter if Jack didn't  have  giant  hands. We made a fun spider  snack with a marshmallow , chocolate  chips and pretzel sticks. Jack was super  excited to go see Maven again at Paws to read at the library.  As a reward this week we went to see the Goosebumps  movie in 3D too. It was awesome! Then we did a skeleton craft  with white paint and Q tips.

Full week off

I'm  so glad that my boss's horse show is always at the end of October  because it is my favorite  time of year  and Halloween  is Jack's  favorite. We finished up our Greek Mythology  unit study  and this week we are learning about the skeletal system  and the usual reading , writing and arithmetic.  We are still reading Charlotte's  Web and it is so easy to tie in our craft and science  lessons to include spiders, bones and farm animals with a Halloween  twist.
We did a few cool science experiments using skittles today. We compared skittles in warm water  and cold water and what happens.  It was so cool to see the edible S sticker from the skittles float off.   We also did the density of sugar with skittles. One glass had 8 skittles of the same color the next had 6 then 4 then 2 then 1 and then  you drop the colored liquid into another  glass and the liquid with the most sugar will  be the most dense and will be on the bottom.

We did a few  fun crafts but Jack's favorite  was the paper plate, pipe cleaner and googly  eyed spider . Then we went to the library for some more art and research. In a chapter in Charlotte's  web , it discusses the local  birds and part of the study guide that  I had printed off has the child researching a bird and writing and presenting  a report about  it. Jack picked hummingbirds  to research.  He was also introduced to how to use the library's online search database.

After our day was over , I went back to the library for yoga. They have yoga at the library  twice a week. I love it. I have arthritis  and sciatica  issues and I always feel amazing after yoga.

I also made a new recipe  for breakfast: bacon , egg and cheese Hash brown nest muffins. I made them to go along with  the bird research project. I made Italian meatloaf for dinner too. I love actually  having the time to cook. When I work it is a quick meal or a crockpot meal or a casserole  that I prepared  the night before and Jason puts in the oven when I'm  on my way home.

Son day Fun day

I got to meet my friends new baby today and she is  precious.  Jack and I ate at P.F. Chang's, they have an awesome  gluten free menu. Then we went to the Parthenon to end our Greek Mythology  unit study. Jack  loved the statue  of Athena and the pearl from Percy Jackson. Then we walked around  Centennial  park a little before  the rain started.  It was a fun date with Jack.

Sassy Saturday

What  an awesome  day. We had a blast at the Down syndrome  Buddy Walk  to support my sister  in law extroidonaire, Cathy. Then we went to the trunk or treat at Holy  Trinity Church. They do an amazing  job and are so welcoming and generous.  Jack has a friend spending the night tonight  and there is no telling what they will get into.

Fall festivals

Have I  mentioned  that fall is my favorite  time of year yet? Haha. Because it totally is and I love being off the last  week and a half of October. Today in our  homeschool classroom  we learned more about  Greek Mythology and my favorite yet  creepy  story about Icarus. I guess all of Greek mythology  is technically  creepy.  We practiced  multiplication, division and a little  English. Then we went to the GRHSA  fall festival.  Then time for a book and more English  then Jack's  old public  schools  fall festival.  Ahh , fall festivals with  musical chairs, cookie decorating  and hair painting. So much fun. I'm  so glad that  my son loves  fall as much as I do.

I love to cook

I love  this time of year when  I am off work and get to spend a lot of time  with my fellas.  I live to cook now.  I used to hate it but when you have an autoimmune  disease  that  makes it extremely  difficult  to eat out  , you learn to adapt. I have all my recipes  planned out. Tuesday  night  was chicken parmesan  casserole.  Thank goodness for gluten  free Italian  bread crumbs. We had leftovers  Wednesday.  Tonight was Italian  pork chops and tomorrow  is chili cheese nachos.  We have a super busy day tomorrow, so I have to make quick food. I will make several make ahead and freeze items too. I will make breakfast  muffins , sausage cheese balls  and puppy  chow to have on hand when an unexpected  party comes up.

I love teaching Jack. We studied more about ancient Greece , Charlotte's  Web reading and vocabulary , creative writing , math , a little physics (rocket launch and why Jack's  rocket did not go very far and  every one else's  did) and a little fall art. His rocket was too top heavy.  The weather  was absolutely  beautiful.  Jack  even joined Maya  and I for our daily walk.  I got to eat lunch and catch  up with my friend Becky as well. All in all it was a great day.
