Spring time

I love this time a year. We are having several bonfires and I am getting our camp gear ready.  I want to go camping so bad,but we won't be able to go this weekend. We have had a lot of rain and thunderstorms lately and I'm  battling a stomach bug so this Memorial Day weekend will be spent on the couch with Netflix, chicken noodle soup and icecream.

These photos are of our fun weekend we had last weekend.  Our funday Friday homeschool day, after the written work, we did art. Jack hates art but I made it something he would like, so we made a target out of foam board for his wooden crossbow that he purchased from the Renaissance festival. Then we had Target practice for P.E.

Then we had a fun art, engineering and science project with biodegradable packing peanuts that I brought home from work. We have been discussing landforms and ways to help the Earth as well as water pollution and different types of usable energy in Earth Science.  We compared biodegradable packing peanuts vs non biodegradable peanuts. When sprayed with water,it didn't effect the Styrofoam peanuts at all but it melted the biodegradable peanuts which are made from corn starch.

Then we engineered a bridge with the peanuts and toothpicks. Then we played with water and the peanuts which turned the peanuts into moldable floam. We made a model of a man. Jack wanted to make a skeleton but it molded into a man and then Jack proceeded to name the bones. I'm so happy he loves science as much as I do. We made a pretty cool tea bag rocket that we got from a library  book.

The rest of the weekend involved a fun bonfire and we cooked hot dogs over the fire. Jack had his last day of Archery class and we watched the new Angry Birds movie  too.

We are finishing reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and we discussed the book and watched the movie. Jack also looked up every new word he came across when we were reading. He is getting faster at using the dictionary. We will be wrapping up the 3rd grade soon.I can't  believe that I will have a 4th grader. We will spend all of next week reviewing and testing. Then the summer school/learn to write cursive lessons will happen.
